01Who We Are
Slumber Assist is published by Dedalva LLC ("we", "us", or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use the Slumber Assist mobile application ("App") on Android or iOS.
If you have any questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy or your personal data, please contact us at the address above.
02Scope
This Policy applies to all users of Slumber Assist regardless of where you are located. We have written it to comply with:
- The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR — Regulation 2016/679)
- The UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and UK Data Protection Act 2018
- The Australian Privacy Act 1988 and Australian Privacy Principles (APPs)
- Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial laws
- The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), and other applicable US state privacy laws
03Information We Collect
3a. Information You Provide Directly
When you use Slumber Assist, you enter or generate information that is stored locally on your device only. This includes:
| Category | Examples | Storage |
|---|---|---|
| Library | Audiobooks, music, and nature-sound tracks you add or import, along with titles, authors, and cover art | On device |
| Listening positions | Your current chapter and playback position per title, recently played, and favorites | On device |
| Sleep timer & playback | Default timer duration, fade-out length, end-of-chapter preference, playback speed, resume-rewind seconds | On device |
| Preferences | Theme (light / dark / system), volume, and other in-app settings | On device |
Slumber Assist is account-free — you do not create a login, and we do not ask for your name, email address, or phone number to use the App.
3b. Media Library Access (Optional)
If you choose to add your own audio files, the App requests access to the files or media you select through your device's standard file or media picker. Specifically:
- The App only reads the files you explicitly choose — it does not scan or upload your wider photo or media library.
- Imported audio and its metadata are stored locally and are never transmitted to us.
- You can revoke media or files permission at any time through your device settings.
3c. Content Delivered from Providers
Some content — for example streamed sleep-music catalogs or nature-sound packs — may be delivered from third-party content providers. When you play or download such content, the App requests it over a secure connection. This is necessary for the content you selected to play.
| Feature | What is sent | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Streaming / downloading a track | The identifier of the track you chose to play | Network |
| Cover art & catalog listings | The identifier of the item whose artwork or details are shown | Network |
We send only what is needed to return the content, and the request is not tied to an account or a persistent identifier we control. We do not keep a copy of what you play on our own servers (we operate none for user data). The providers that answer these requests process them under their own privacy policies — see §7.
3d. Problem Reports (Voluntarily Submitted)
When you choose to submit a problem report from Settings → Help & Feedback, the App compiles the following into an email draft opened in your device's native mail app:
| Field | Source | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Description | You type it | Yes |
| Category | You select (e.g. Bug / Confusing behavior / Suggestion) | No |
| Screenshot | You attach from your photo library | No |
| App version | Attached automatically by the App | — |
| Device model | Attached automatically by the App | — |
| OS version | Attached automatically by the App | — |
The email draft opens addressed to [email protected]. You can review all content before sending. Nothing is transmitted automatically — you tap Send yourself. Closing the mail app without sending transmits nothing.
Once sent, problem reports are received and stored by Dedalva LLC and are subject to your email provider's privacy practices in transit.
3e. Crash Reports (with Consent)
If the App closes unexpectedly, the next time you open it Slumber Assist may offer to send a crash report. The report contains technical diagnostics only — the type of error, the app version, and your device model and OS version. It contains no library content, listening history, or personal identifiers. Crash reports are only sent if you tap "Send report"; you can decline, and you can disable the prompt in Settings. Nothing is transmitted automatically.
3f. Information Collected for Advertising (with Consent)
Slumber Assist is a free app supported by advertising through Google AdMob. To serve advertisements, AdMob may automatically collect certain information, which may include:
- Device identifiers (Advertising ID / IDFA)
- IP address (approximate, coarse location)
- Device type, operating system version, and language
- Ad interaction data (impressions, clicks)
This collection is subject to your consent, which is requested through a consent dialog (powered by Google's User Messaging Platform, "UMP") when you first launch the App in regions where consent is required. If you decline personalised advertising — or are outside a region where consent is required — non-personalised ads may still be shown; these use less data. Ads are never shown during active playback of a sleep session. The advertising SDK does not receive your library, listening positions, or preferences.
3g. Information We Do Not Collect
We keep our own data footprint as small as possible. Specifically:
- We have no servers or cloud storage that hold your library, listening positions, or preferences. They live only on your device.
- We do not require an account, email address, or phone number.
- We do not sell your personal data for money.
- We do not build a profile of what you listen to — aside from the advertising data described in §3f, no data leaves your device without your action or a feature you trigger.
- We do not collect financial or payment information (the App is free with no in-app purchases).
04How We Use Your Information
Data You Enter (Stored on Your Device)
Your library, listening-position, timer, and preference data is used solely to operate the App on your device:
- Play your audiobooks, music, and nature sounds, and remember where you stopped
- Run the sleep timer and fade audio down gently when it ends
- Resume a few seconds before where you drifted off when you press play
- Organize your library and remember favorites and recently played
- Apply your theme, playback speed, and other settings
- Send local notifications (e.g. timer complete) where enabled
Content Requests (To Deliver the Feature)
The identifiers described in §3c are used only to fetch the track, artwork, or catalog listing you asked for. They are not used for profiling or advertising.
Problem & Crash Report Data (When Voluntarily Submitted)
The information in a submitted problem report or crash report is used solely to investigate the issue, improve the App, and respond to you. We do not use it for advertising, profiling, or any other purpose.
Advertising Data (with Consent)
If you consent to personalised advertising, Google AdMob uses the data described in §3f to serve relevant ads. If you decline (or are outside a region where consent is required), non-personalised ads may still be shown using less data. You can withdraw your consent at any time (see §11). We do not combine advertising data with the library or listening data stored on your device.
05Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR & UK GDPR)
For users in the European Economic Area (EEA) and United Kingdom, we rely on the following legal bases:
| Processing activity | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Storing your library, listening positions, timer & preferences on your device | Performance of a contract / legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(b)/(f)) — necessary to provide the App's core functionality you have requested. |
| Requesting streamed or downloaded content from providers | Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) — necessary to deliver the content you selected. |
| Accessing files or media you select for import | Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — you grant files/media permission explicitly. |
| Receiving and processing voluntarily submitted problem reports | Consent / legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(a)/(f)) — you initiate the report and review its full content before sending. |
| Sending a crash report | Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — a crash report is sent only when you tap "Send report". |
| Local timer & playback notifications | Legitimate interests / consent (Art. 6(1)(f)/(a)) — a core feature; you control notification permission. |
| Personalised advertising (Google AdMob) | Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — collected via the UMP consent dialog on first launch. |
| Non-personalised advertising (Google AdMob) | Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — limited, non-targeted advertising to support free access to the App. |
06Data Storage and Security
All data you enter into Slumber Assist is stored exclusively on your device. We use the following security measures:
- OS-level data protection: The App's local database and imported audio are stored within the App's sandboxed storage, protected by your device's built-in encryption (Android Full Disk Encryption / iOS Data Protection) when your device is locked.
- Encrypted transmission: Content requests to providers (§3c) are transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections.
- Data minimisation: We send only the identifier needed to return a result, without attaching account or identity information.
Because data is stored locally, the security of your information also depends on your device's own security features (screen lock, OS updates, etc.). We recommend keeping your device operating system and the App up to date.
07Data Sharing and Third-Party Services
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for their own purposes. We do, however, rely on the following categories of service provider to deliver the App's features. Each processes the request under its own privacy policy and acts as an independent data controller for the data it receives.
| Provider category | Purpose | Data received |
|---|---|---|
| Content delivery / CDN | Streaming or downloading music & nature-sound tracks | Track identifier, IP address |
| Audiobook / music catalog | Cover art, titles, chapter listings | Item identifier |
The specific vendors used are listed in the App's "About → Acknowledgements" screen and may change over time as we improve coverage and quality. We choose providers that support privacy-respecting, account-free requests wherever possible.
Google AdMob (Advertising, with Consent)
The App includes Google AdMob to show advertisements. When you consent to advertising, Google may collect and process data as described in the Google Privacy Policy. Google acts as an independent data controller for the data it collects via AdMob. We have no access to, and are not responsible for, the data Google collects for advertising purposes.
- Google's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy
- Google's AdMob data disclosures: support.google.com/admob/answer/6128543
Legal Disclosures
We may disclose information if required to do so by law, regulation, court order, or other legal process, or if we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Dedalva LLC, our users, or the public.
Business Transfers
In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or substantially all of our assets, your on-device data would not be transferred, as we do not hold it.
08Data Retention
Because all data you enter is stored on your device:
- Your data persists until you delete it, clear the App's data, or uninstall the App.
- Uninstalling the App deletes its local database and imported audio on both Android and iOS.
- Device backups: Some backup systems (iCloud on iOS, Google One on Android) may include App data in a general device backup. You can manage this through your device's backup settings.
- We do not retain your library or listening positions on our servers because we do not receive them.
- Content requests (§3c) are retained by the relevant providers according to their own policies; we keep no copy.
- Problem & crash reports you voluntarily submit are retained as correspondence or diagnostics for as long as necessary to resolve the issue, then deleted. To request early deletion, contact [email protected].
09Data Deletion
Because Slumber Assist stores your data on your device, you are in control of deleting it. You can remove your data at any time:
- Delete within the app: Remove individual titles or tracks from your library. Deleting an item removes it from your device.
- Clear all app data: Clearing the App's storage in your device settings, or uninstalling Slumber Assist, permanently removes all library content, listening positions, and preferences the App has stored. This action cannot be undone.
- Device backups: If you use iCloud (iOS) or Google One (Android) backups, a copy of App data may exist in that backup. Manage or delete it through your device's backup settings.
For any information held off your device — specifically, problem or crash reports you voluntarily send us — you may request deletion at any time by emailing [email protected]. We will delete the related correspondence, except where we are required to retain it to comply with a legal obligation.
10International Data Transfers
Your library, listening positions, and preferences do not leave your device and are therefore not subject to international transfer. The content requests described in §3c and any problem or crash reports you voluntarily submit may be processed or stored by service providers in the United States or other countries where those providers operate data centres.
Where such transfers occur, the relevant providers rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or other transfer mechanisms approved under the GDPR and UK GDPR. Please refer to each provider's privacy policy for details.
Advertising data collected by Google AdMob (with your consent) may also be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where Google operates data centres. Google relies on Standard Contractual Clauses for these transfers. See Google's Privacy & Terms for details.
11Your Rights
Regardless of where you are located, you may contact us at [email protected] with any privacy concerns. Your specific rights depend on your jurisdiction:
EU / EEA (GDPR) and United Kingdom (UK GDPR)
You have the right to:
- Access — obtain a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Rectification — have inaccurate data corrected
- Erasure ("right to be forgotten") — request deletion of your data
- Restriction — ask us to restrict processing in certain circumstances
- Data portability — receive your data in a structured, commonly used format
- Object — object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent (including media access and advertising), withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing
- Lodge a complaint — with your national supervisory authority (e.g. the ICO in the UK, or your EU Member State's data protection authority)
Because your data is stored on your device, most of these rights can be exercised directly within the App (editing or deleting records) or through your device settings (revoking permissions, uninstalling the App).
To revoke media/files access: Go to your device Settings → Apps → Slumber Assist → Permissions.
To change your advertising consent: Open the App → Settings → Privacy & Ads, or reinstall the App, which resets the consent state.
To remove all stored data: Delete items in-app, or clear the App's storage / uninstall the App.
California (CCPA / CPRA)
California residents have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect, use, or disclose
- Delete personal information we have collected (note: we hold none on our servers)
- Correct inaccurate personal information
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information — we do not sell personal information for money, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising outside of Google AdMob, which is subject to your consent
- Non-discrimination for exercising your rights
To exercise these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within 45 days.
Canada (PIPEDA)
We collect only the minimum personal information needed to operate the App. You have the right to:
- Access your personal information held by us
- Withdraw consent to the collection or use of your personal information at any time (subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice)
- Challenge our compliance with PIPEDA by contacting us, and if not resolved, by filing a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (www.priv.gc.ca)
Australia (Privacy Act 1988 / Australian Privacy Principles)
Under the APPs you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you (APP 12)
- Request correction of personal information that is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant, or misleading (APP 13)
- Know why a request for access or correction is refused
Because we hold no personal information on our servers, these rights are most practically exercised directly on your device. You may also contact us at [email protected]. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (www.oaic.gov.au).
12Children's Privacy
Slumber Assist is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or under 16 where required by local law, including in the EU and UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under these ages. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has entered information into the App, you can delete the App or clear its data to remove all locally stored information. Please also contact us at [email protected].
13Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes that affect how we handle your data, we will provide notice within the App.
Your continued use of Slumber Assist after changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the revised Policy.
14Contact Us
